NEWS Fergal is just back from a week's painting in Achill. He joined a group of artists there who have been painting in Achill for 20 years. Pictures of Achill showing the scene I painted in Gouache and the photo of the scene is on the Portfolio ' Fergal's Home Page'. Thanks to all involved in making the week so successful.
NEWS : The painting course in the Burren and Inishoir went well at the end of June. There were 16 artists on the course of which 15 travelled over to Inishoir. The course commenced on Friday evening 25th with my talk about my approach to painting the unique landscape which is the Burren. On Saturday morning we left the Burren Painting Centre in Lisdoonvarna and travelled to the coast at Doolin to paint the coastal rock formation. A wonderful warm sunny day was enjoyed by all. On Sunday we painted at Fanore beach which was a fabulous place to paint. The weather was a big breezy but dry. We travelled to Inishoir on Monday by ferry where we spent the afternoon painting on the beach front beside the pier. A dull day gave way to a stunning sunset. Tuesday was spent painting all day at the lighthouse in beautiful calm conditions. Many thanks to all the artists who participated and especially to those who sang, danced and told stories-the last night on Inishoir was a memorable night. Thanks to Christine O'Neill for her organizational skills and to the B&B people on Inishoir who looked after us so well. Photos of the trip are on ' Fergal's Home Page' portfolio. The demonstration painting which I did for the artists at Doolin is on the 'Seascape Paintings' portfolio. No 1 on the list.
NEWS : The painting course at the Watermill in Posara finished on Saturday 22nd May after a wonderful week of painting. Although the weather at the beginning of the week was damp and cool we were able to paint outdoors everyday and we made use of the spacious studio at the mill when the rain came on sunday afternoon. On Sunday we painted at the mill to get acclimatised to our location set in a wonderful valley with great views of the Apennines in the Lunigiana region of Tuscany. During the week we travelled to Verrucola set above Fivizzano with its spectacular castle. We visited Fivizzano on market day and painted there for the day overlooking the valley with a fabulous picnic provided by Kerstin. Thursday was spent at the Watermill as the artists wanted to finish the work they had commenced on Sunday and it allowed the artists the day to relax over lunch and paint at leisure. On Friday we travelled high up to Monte de Bianchi with its spectacular vistas of the high mountains. We had a fabulous day there with clear blue skies and a warm gentle breeze. On the free day we visited Lucca, travelling by train through the stunning Garfagnana valley. The walled city of Lucca is a real treat and some of the artists sketched there. I would like to thank Kerstin who looked after us all with her wonderful organisation and fabulous food throughout the week and to our drivers who safely navigated us around the area and delivered and collected us from the different restaurants we visited. Thanks to th artists on the course, all of whom contributed so much to making the week such a success and all went away with some wonderful paintings and lots of photographs for inspiration and reference. I enjoyed my first trip to the watermill immensely and look forward to my return trip there next year. For photos of the trip see the portfolio ' Italy'.
